NYPD officers arrest the hit-and-run suspect beside an SUV in Crown Heights

A suspect has been arrested following a weeks-long investigation into a severe hit-and-run that left a Crown Heights pedestrian seriously injured.

The incident took place on Friday night, October 16, when an SUV struck a Chabad man in his 50s. Rather than stopping to assist the injured pedestrian, the driver backed up and fled the scene.

Shomrim's surveillance cameras captured the incident, allowing the vehicle's license plate and the suspect to be identified. Shomrim members immediately began working with the NYPD, sharing footage and information to help identify the driver and locate the vehicle.

The search continued over the following two weeks, with Shomrim's Advanced Technology Team playing a key role in tracking down the vehicle.

On Friday afternoon, October 30, the vehicle was located, and the suspect was placed under arrest at the intersection of Lefferts Avenue and Kingston Avenue.

The arrest marks the conclusion of an extensive search and investigation following the serious collision.
